Church Profile

The Hills Church was formed in 1970 as Rainbow Hills Baptist Church.  It started as a mission of Pruitt Avenue Baptist Church.  In 2013, Rainbow Hills Baptist Church merged with Hope Community Church and changed our name to The Hills Church.  It was also during this time that the leadership transitioned to an Elder model with members from both Rainbow Hills and Hope Community serving as the first Elder team.

Our mission statement is that The Hills Church exists of glorify God through transformed lives.  At a high level, our mission actions are to Know God, Love Others, and Live the Gospel.

The Hills Church is aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention and at the state level, dually aligned with both the SBTC and BGCT.  Locally, we support the San Antonio Baptist Association.

The Hills Church is led through a Plurality of Elders - an Elder Model.  Currently, there are 5 men serving as Elders of the Hills Church.  All are responsible for the leading and feeding of The Hills Church.  While each Elder has individual responsibilities and oversight of various ministries, the visioning and policies of the church are set collectively by the Elders.

Sunday morning attendance at The Hills Church was averaging about 160 in worship and 111 in Sunday School prior to the current pandemic.  Presently, the church offers Sunday morning worship in person and on-line, and Sunday morning Bible Fellowships in-person. All other ministries are in an on-line format until it is considered safe to meet in person again.

The membership is diverse in both age and ethnicity.  We are a multi-ethnic church that includes a membership ranging from young families with small children on up to our precious senior adults.  Embracing our diversity is one way we carry out the mission action of loving others.  Loving others means that we are accepting of differences of dress and worship style.  On any given Sunday we will have members casually dressed in jeans and others in suits.  Worship music is a mixture of contemporary Christian music and traditional hymns.

Membership in The Hills Church is through a church covenant. (Refer to The Hills Church Membership Covenant here).

The ministries of The Hills Church include those for newborns through adults.  For children, we offer Sunday School and AWANAs for preschool through 5th grade.  Youth activities include Sunday and Wednesday Bible Studies.  There are several adult Bible Studies based generally on age or life stage, including Bible Studies in Spanish. (Refer to the "Current Ministries" list at the end of this page.)

Legacy Christian Academy, a private school serving students in Pre-K through 12th grade, is also a ministry of The Hills Church.

The Hills Church supports multiple mission organizations/projects.  As noted above, there is a mission trust account established from which earnings support specific mission organizations.  Also, 11.5% of all undesignated offerings is allocated for missions at the national, state, and local levels.  We currently have a relationship with the Asociacion Evangelica Los Obreros Cristianos, led by President Hansi Martinez, in Honduras where we support pastoral training and medical clinics such as the LaJolla Medical Clinic and Complex.

The Hills Church is located in west San Antonio just outside Loop 410 near Marbach Road.  While we are in a neighborhood setting, our membership tends to be from outside our immediate neighborhood.
