To the Uttermost

"Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him,
since he always lives to make intercession for them."
Hebrews 7:25 (ESV)
Hebrews 7:25 tells us of one of the greatest truths of the Christian life: Jesus is interceding for us right now. The foundation of our salvation was established in the life and death of Christ. But He continues to work on our behalf even now. His intercession to the Father applies even now what He accomplished on the cross already. This isn't because the Father hates us. Rather, the Son intercedes for us because the great delight of the Father is to say yes to the Son pleading for His people. The Father loves to love the people who the Son has saved.

Christ's continual intercession shows us that even though we continue to sin even now, the righteousness of Christ accomplished on the cross is still stands. Christ's death on the cross established the basis for all eternity on which Christ will always interceded for His people. Christ's death for our sins has been and always will be enough. And because His death is the all-sufficient death for our sins, Christ has the eternal basis to continually intercede for His people so that the Father will bless them.
