Restart Your Time in God’s Word
Friday, Jan 5, 2024
Central Texts: Psalm 1; 2 Tim 3:16-17
How important is knowing God to you? Nature reveals to us the glory and greatness of God. (Psa 19:1; Rom 1:20) But Scripture shows God to us with even greater depth and detail. God in His infinite wisdom inspired writers to record in the books of the Bible who He is, what He is like, and how He acts. The Word of God is entirely sufficient in revealing to us all that is needed for salvation and a life of godliness and is our sole authority for faith and practice. Paul says that the Spirit was given to us so that we might understand all the Lord has freely given us, not by human wisdom, but by words taught by the Spirit. (1 Cor 2:12-13) It is in God’s Word where His sovereignty and triune nature are revealed. It is in His Word we learn our identity in Christ, the privilege and power of prayer, what pleases God and what God hates. In His Word He makes Himself known. When we study our Bible, God will not let His Word return to void, but it will accomplish His purposes. (Isa 55:10-11) As with prayer, restarting your time in God’s Word may mean you continue and build upon the discipline of Bible study that you have now. But it may mean that you ask the Lord to help you recommit to the Bible being the authoritative source for every aspect of your life. God’s Word is often referred to as food. Like food, it needs to be digested well to receive all its benefits. Making intentional time to be in the Bible or finding new resources to maximize the Bible study time can be the focus of your prayer and fasting today.
