Realize Your Need to Be in the Body of Christ
Sunday, Jan 7, 2024
Central Texts: 1 Cor 12; Eph 1:15-23
The Bible tells us as followers of Jesus we no longer live just for ourselves, but we live for Christ in community and fellowship of the church especially the local church. The union of that fellowship is critically important and powerful as it is a testimony to the world that God sent Jesus and that He loves us. (John 17:20-23) It is critical because Jesus said our love for and commitment to one another in the body of Christ is how others would know we are His followers. (John 13:35) The power in this union is from the Holy Spirit (Eph 4:3) equipping each member as He wills for the common good of the entire church. (Eph 4:7) As we pray and fast let’s ask the Lord for a greater awakening and understanding of what it means for each of us to be committed to the body of Christ. Though we are many in number, together we are one. (Eph 4:4-6) In our union the manifold wisdom of God in Jesus will be displayed even in heavenly places. (Eph 3:9-10)
As you pray…
As you pray…
- Pray that each member of our church would be spiritually healthy.
- Pray “23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me and lead me in the way everlasting! (Ps 139:23-24, ESV)
- Acknowledge that God’s Word says that the Spirit gives each member what they need to function and belong in Christ’s church so that the church can fulfill its purpose.
- Pray that God will show you the role He has gifted you for and where to serve at The Hills Church. Pray God will use others to affirm your gifts and abilities and to affirm what they see God doing in and through you. (1 Cor. 12:4-7, 11)
- Ask God to let you see how He has gifted others in our church so you can be an encourager and a partner with others for the good of the entire church.
- Ask God to lead us in worship, preaching, teaching, decision making, and prayer to prioritize our resources and giftedness to honor and glorify Him.
