Reflect upon Your Identity in Christ

Central Texts: Psalm 139; 2 Cor 5:17

Psalm 139:16 tells us that God has intentionally and meticulously created each of us to fulfill His purposes: "Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” God already had a unique purpose and plan for each of us before we were even born to fulfill His great purpose to glorify Himself. That plan brought us to His saving grace and being born again. (John 3:3-12) That plan means we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works. (Eph 2:9- 10) And that plan is guaranteed to be fulfilled as God has promised to complete what He began. (Phil 1:6)

Perhaps due to personal doubt or failure in temptation you find yourself without certainty about your identity before God. Once we come to the Father through Jesus our identity and security before Him never changes. Often, our fellowship with the Father is broken by our sins requiring us to confess our sins to restore to our fellowship with Him (1 John 1:6-9) and to reassure us of the certainty of our relationship with God that has been given to us in Jesus. If so, use today's time of prayer and reading today’s Bible verses to reflect on the relationship God has sealed for you by grace through faith in His Son. (Eph 1:13; 4:30)

Or perhaps you are confident in your identity in Christ.  Rejoice in the evidence of the work of the Spirit in your life to as shown in the fruit of the Spirit. (Gal 5:22-24)

In either case, may you be refreshed and rejoice by reflecting on these verses in His presence.

Who I Am in Christ Jesus:
  • In Christ Jesus I am forgiven of my sins and redeemed to know God, enjoy Him, and love Him as my Father throughout eternity.  (Eph 1:1-14)
  • I no longer live for myself or by my own giftedness.  Christ’s indwelling presence is transforming me into His likeness.  (Gal 2:20; Col 1:27)

As you pray…
  • Ask God to enable you to see yourself as He sees you according to what is in His Word.
  • Ask God to show you any limiting beliefs about His redeeming and transforming grace that do not align with God's Word.
  • Pray that God will lead you to see His direction for your life, for your family, and for your church.
  • Worship the Lord for His patience and the transforming work He does which enables you to be and accomplishes in you all that He saved you to be.
  • Ask the Lord to help you recognize and let others affirm the spiritual gift(s) He has given you to serve in the church.
